Champagne & Seafood Shack 07 July, 2008

The Champagne and Seafood Shack at The Earl of March formally opened on the 10th July. It has been realised from what was in the 16th centaury 'The Old Bake House'. The Shack itself opens up onto the outside terrace and garden, facing north to the foot of the South Downs and stands of Goodwood race course. This incidentally, is the stunning view that inspired William Blake in 1803 to write the words for Jerusalem from this very Pub!

 

The Shack will feature a range of Champagne and Wines to compliment the carefully
Selected Seafood Specialties from our local suppliers and a fountain of continental beer
will flow to quench the thirst of our garden revelers!

All the Seafood has been sourced from local suppliers. Springs Smokery of Henfield,
West Sussex have been chosen for their outstanding quality Smoked Salmon, local
Mackerel, Trout, traditional Whole Smoked Herring, and West Sussex Buckling!
Our Crabs and Lobsters have been sourced from Sue Poston whose husband Gary lays
and gathers the pots from which come the prized Selsey Crabs and Lobsters. Sue
traditionally hand picks the Crabs and dresses them freshly every day and
personally delivers them to the kitchen gate.
Oysters come from the highly graded waters of Colchester, of which we will feature
Rock Oysters, plump and juicy throughout the summer months. Perhaps the only exception to
our procurement of indigenous seafood will be that of our Nordic invaders the Pint of Prawns!
Specials of Scottish Langoustines, FreshWater Crayfish will feature when at their best.

The Seafood Shack will be headed up by Robbie the ''Pirate'' our Head Chef and
Guy our Front of House Manger who will man the beer fountain and ensure
it flows all summer long.

For this year the Shack will be open from July to the end of the Goodwood Revival motor sport
meeting in mid September, converting to our Private Dining Room/Shoot Room for the winter months.
This will seat 12 people and be ideal for private dining, meetings and small conferences. A perfect
environment for sampling our Seasonal Game Specialties in the privacy of your own county house!
