 Singleton’s Partridge Inn changes hands: Giles Thompson adds a further pub to the highly successful Earl of March pub, Lavant, Chichester, West Sussex

The Partridge Inn, a traditional 17th century pub on the Goodwood Estate, Singleton, Chichester, West Sussex, has been taken over by Giles Thompson, past executive head chef of the Ritz who runs the Earl of March pub nearby at Lavant, near Chichester. ‘My aim is to make this lovely pub with all its character and great garden into a family-friendly one with an emphasis on local, regional, wild and healthy food with good, earthy dishes for the adults,’ Giles says. ‘It will be in contrast to the more upmarket food that my team of chefs and I cook at the Earl of March and we’ll be rolling out a menu to suit the area, the pub close to great main attractions like the Singleton Open Air Museum, Goodwood with all its events and Chichester.’ ‘But this is very much a local pub for locals in this lovely South Downs village,’ he adds, ‘ the beamed bars with their large log fires and old timber beams a real mecca for beer drinkers and those who just prefer a light bite too.’
The pub will complement the Earl of March pub down the Midhurst to Chichester road with its adjacent Seafood Shack overlooking the South Downs, open again at Easter and offering an excellent selection of seafood sourced locally such as Selsey crab and lobster, West Sussex smoked fish, mussels, bloaters, kippers, oysters, sea bream and bass just some of the fish on offer alongside the Champagne Bar. ‘We’re also open for pre-theatre dinners at the Earl of March, the Chichester Festival Theatre just five minutes’ away by car and have a great, quick menu line-up for those in a hurry not to miss the opening act.’
