Review: Pubutopia.com 09 May, 2007

This pub has had a somewhat chequered history in recent years. After closing, it remained empty for some time, then was bought and very nicely refurbished, albeit in rather a wine bar style. It re-opened in 2006. Unfortunately, there was no landlord on site, and the pub lacked atmosphere.

Initially the fairly large restaurant area did well, but then faded badly, and gathered a reputation for rather unpredictable and often poor food. Customers dwindled towards zero. Then in mid-2007 it changed hands, twice, and is now (August 2007) being run by a new owner, with considerable experience in food.

Although only just into operation (3 weeks), all the initial indications are favourable. The menu is much improved, with good raw materials and cooking. The pub side offers a good range of beers and wine. There is a small garden with a beautiful outlook. The post-refurbishment changes are now being used to good advantage. The host is friendly and welcoming. Its a nice place to be. This pub is "on the up" and well worth visiting - the outlook to Goodwood and the Downs is wonderful.
