Review: AA Restaurant Guide 2010 09 October, 2009
William Blake penned the rousing words to Jerusalem during a stay in 1803 at this Sussex country pub ont he edge of the Goodwood estate.
Inspirational South Downs landscapes are still all around, but in 2007 a former executive head chef from the Ritz took over and ushered in the 21st century with a stylish country-chic makeover. The bar retains the feel of a pub, with squashy sofas and a crackling log fire, while the restaurant ratchets up the style a notch or two with snazzy table and brown high backed chairs. The culinary output is guided by a sure hand. Blackboards showcase the best of local produce-perhaps pan-seared diver-caught scallops with pea puree, pancetta and truffle oil, or tender pink New Forest venison served on buttery chive mash with roasted root vegetables and port wine jus.
